Amazon Business Prime is a common search term for Amazon's business-focused Prime membership. On Amazon's current US site, the service is called Prime Business.
Prime Business is an optional membership for Amazon Business customers. It adds fast delivery on eligible orders and, depending on the plan, benefits such as purchasing controls, spend analytics, rewards, and extended payment terms for approved accounts. An Amazon Business account itself is free to register, so a company does not have to pay for Prime Business simply to buy through Amazon Business.
The practical question is therefore not just what Prime Business is. It is what the membership adds beyond the free Amazon Business account—and whether your company buys often enough or manages enough purchasers to make those additions useful.

Amazon Business, Prime Business and Amazon Prime Are Not the Same Thing
The similar names hide three different products.
A useful mental model is:
Amazon Business changes the type of purchasing account. Prime Business adds membership benefits to that business account. Personal Amazon Prime remains a consumer membership.
Service | Designed for | Main purpose |
Amazon account | Individual shoppers | Consumer purchasing |
Amazon Prime | Individuals and households | Consumer membership and delivery benefits |
Amazon Business | Businesses and organizations | Business purchasing |
Prime Business | Amazon Business customers | Additional business delivery, rewards and purchasing-management benefits |
This distinction matters because signing up for Amazon Business does not automatically mean paying for Prime Business.
What You Get With a Free Amazon Business Account
Amazon Business registration is free, with no Prime Business subscription required.
The account provides a business purchasing environment that can help separate company purchases from personal shopping and gives organizations access to Amazon Business purchasing tools and business-specific buying features.
For some small businesses, that is enough.
A sole proprietor who mainly wants cleaner separation between personal and company orders may have little reason to add a paid membership immediately.
What Prime Business Adds
Prime Business becomes the next layer when the company wants additional membership benefits.
Free Amazon Business | Prime Business adds |
Business purchasing account | Prime delivery on eligible business purchases |
Business buying environment | Membership-specific business benefits |
Business pricing or quantity discounts where available | Rewards for eligible plans and purchases |
Account and purchasing tools | Additional spend and purchasing-control capabilities depending on tier |
No Prime Business subscription required | Paid membership except eligible Duo accounts |
The useful comparison is therefore not “free Amazon versus paid Amazon.” It is what purchasing problem remains after the free business account is in place.
How Much Does Amazon Business Prime Cost?
Amazon currently offers five Prime Business membership levels in the US.
Plan | Account size | Current annual price |
Duo | Sole proprietor | Free with eligible personal Amazon Prime membership |
Essentials | Up to 5 users | $179 |
Small | Up to 20 users | $499 |
Medium | Up to 200 users | $1,299 |
Enterprise | Unlimited users | $10,099 |
Pricing and plan limits checked in September 2026. Amazon can change pricing, benefits and eligibility.
These prices and current user limits come from Amazon's US Prime Business plan page. Essentials currently supports up to five users, Small up to 20, Medium up to 200, and Enterprise unlimited users.
Prime Business Duo
Duo is intended for sole proprietors with an eligible personal Amazon Prime membership.
Amazon currently offers it at no additional membership cost. The practical benefit is that a sole proprietor can keep business buying in an Amazon Business account while retaining a separate personal Prime membership.
For someone who already pays for personal Prime and regularly buys work supplies through Amazon, Duo is the first option worth checking.
Essentials, Small, Medium and Enterprise
The paid plans become progressively more relevant as the purchasing operation becomes more complex.
Essentials supports up to five users and includes Spend Visibility and Guided Buying capabilities. Small increases access to 20 users and adds benefits including deeper rewards opportunities and, for approved Business Credit Account customers, extended payment terms. Medium expands the account to 200 users and includes longer approval windows. Enterprise supports unlimited users and adds capabilities such as Spend Anomaly Monitoring and additional Guided Buying controls.
The important point is that employee count should set a boundary, not make the decision by itself.
A company with five users should not automatically pay for Essentials if it barely buys from Amazon. Likewise, a growing company may find the purchasing controls more important than the shipping benefits.

What Do You Actually Get With Prime Business?
Prime Business is easier to judge by the problems its features address.
Business problem | Relevant capability | Potential value |
Frequently needed supplies arrive too slowly | Fast Prime delivery | Less waiting for eligible operational purchases |
Several employees buy independently | Guided Buying | More consistent purchasing behavior |
Management lacks visibility into Amazon spending | Spend Visibility | Better purchasing analysis |
Company wants value back from eligible activity | Prime Business Rewards | Points toward eligible future purchases |
Business wants invoice-based payment flexibility | Business Credit Account | Longer payment cycle for approved accounts |
Not every business has all five problems. A paid plan becomes more compelling when several exist simultaneously.
Fast Business Delivery
Amazon advertises free Two-Day, One-Day and Same-Day delivery on millions of eligible Prime Business orders.
The operational value depends on how the company buys.
A business that repeatedly orders cables, packaging, cleaning products, printer supplies or other day-to-day materials has more opportunities to benefit from predictable fast delivery than a professional-services firm placing a handful of Amazon orders each year.
That makes purchase frequency more useful than company size when judging the shipping benefit.
Spend Visibility and Guided Buying
Purchasing becomes a different problem once several people can spend company money.
If an office manager, IT employee and operations team all order independently, the issue is no longer just delivery speed. The business may need to know who is buying what, steer people toward preferred products, and identify unusual or fragmented purchasing.
Amazon positions Spend Visibility and Guided Buying as tools for those kinds of purchasing-management tasks. The current Essentials plan and higher tiers include these capabilities to varying degrees.
For a growing organization, that administrative control can matter more than receiving a package one day sooner.
Prime Business Rewards
Prime Business Rewards currently applies to US customers on Duo, Essentials and Small plans.
Amazon's dedicated Rewards page says Duo and Essentials members can currently earn 2% back on eligible brands-by-Amazon purchases, while Small members can earn 4%. Customers can also encounter other rewards offers tied to qualifying purchases or account actions. Some offers require members to opt in before qualifying activity earns points.
That means a company should not apply the headline reward rate to its entire Amazon purchasing budget.
Estimate rewards from purchases and offers the business is realistically likely to qualify for. Anything else is theoretical savings.
Payment Terms and Business Credit
Prime Business membership does not automatically give a company a credit line.
Amazon's Business Credit Account is an invite-only invoice-payment option for eligible Amazon Business customers. Approved customers receive standard 30-day payment terms. Eligible Prime Business members on Small and Medium plans can receive 45-day terms, while Enterprise members can receive 60-day terms, subject to approval.
That makes extended payment terms a potential benefit rather than a guaranteed membership feature.
A company evaluating Prime Business mainly for cash-flow flexibility should first determine whether Business Credit Account is actually available to it.

What About Prime Business Member-Only Offers?
Amazon also currently advertises plan-dependent member offers involving third-party and Amazon services, including discounts or benefits from providers such as QuickBooks, CrowdStrike, Gusto, and Amazon Quick.
These offers can add value if the business already needs the relevant software or services, but they are better treated as changeable extras, not the primary reason to choose a membership. Offers, eligibility and discounts can change faster than the core plan structure.
Amazon Business Prime vs. Amazon Prime: What's the Difference?
Personal Amazon Prime and Prime Business solve different jobs.
Feature | Personal Amazon Prime | Prime Business |
Primary audience | Individuals and households | Businesses and organizations |
Purchasing context | Consumer shopping | Business purchasing |
Fast eligible delivery | Yes | Yes |
Consumer entertainment | Consumer Prime benefits include entertainment services | Not the purpose of Prime Business |
Multiple business buyers | Not designed as a procurement system | Supported according to plan |
Spend Visibility | No business procurement equivalent | Available on qualifying plans |
Guided Buying | No | Available on qualifying plans |
Prime Business Rewards | No | Duo, Essentials and Small currently eligible |
Business purchasing controls | Limited | Capabilities increase by tier |
Neither membership is universally “better.”
A household streaming entertainment and ordering personal products has different needs from a company trying to control purchases across several employees.
A sole proprietor may reasonably maintain both: personal Prime for household use and Prime Business Duo for work purchases.
What Prime Business Does Not Give You
Knowing what the membership does not do is important when evaluating its value.
Assumption | Reality |
“Amazon Business requires a paid Prime membership.” | Amazon Business itself can be used without a paid Prime Business plan. |
“Prime Business is just personal Prime billed to a company.” | It is designed around business purchasing and account management. |
“Every plan includes every business feature.” | Benefits and controls vary by tier. |
“Prime Business automatically makes purchases tax-exempt.” | Tax exemption requires separate eligibility and enrollment. |
“Prime Business guarantees extended credit.” | Business Credit Account is invite-only and subject to approval. |
“Every advertised reward applies to all spending.” | Rewards depend on plan, eligibility and qualifying activity. |
This is why the membership should be valued using features a particular company can actually access and use—not the longest possible list of Amazon Business capabilities.
Prime Business Does Not Automatically Make Purchases Tax-Exempt
Prime Business membership does not determine whether an organization qualifies for tax-exempt purchasing.
Amazon operates the separate Amazon Tax Exemption Program (ATEP) for eligible organizations in the US and Canada. Organizations provide their applicable exemption information or documentation, and the program applies eligible exemptions to qualifying purchases.
Prime Business membership and tax-exempt status should therefore be treated as separate issues.
Businesses should confirm their own exemption eligibility and applicable tax requirements rather than assuming an Amazon membership changes their tax status.
Is Amazon Business Prime Worth It?
Prime Business is worth evaluating when Amazon already plays a meaningful role in a company's purchasing process.
The stronger case is not that the membership includes many features. It is that the business can identify a recurring purchasing problem those features actually address.
Potential value | Evidence to check inside the business |
Faster delivery | Frequency of Amazon purchases and occasions when delays cause disruption |
Rewards | Share of actual purchases likely to qualify |
Purchasing control | Number of employees buying independently and frequency of inconsistent purchases |
Administration | Time spent reconciling, reviewing or correcting orders |
Spend visibility | Whether managers lack usable purchasing data |
Payment flexibility | Whether the business is eligible for Business Credit Account and relevant terms |
Then compare those benefits with the annual membership cost and the features likely to go unused.
This produces a more realistic decision than selecting a plan from employee count alone.
A two-person operation ordering essential supplies several times each week may extract more value from Prime Business than a 15-person consultancy making occasional Amazon purchases.
When Prime Business Makes More Sense
The membership becomes easier to justify when Amazon is already a frequent supplier, several employees make purchases, or buying activity has become difficult to monitor consistently.
In those situations, value can come from several smaller improvements working together: faster eligible deliveries, clearer spending data, purchasing rules, rewards and—in approved cases—more flexible payment terms.
Before subscribing, review several months of Amazon purchases. Order frequency, number of active buyers, delivery problems, purchasing mistakes and reconciliation work provide better evidence than a feature list.
When the Free Amazon Business Account May Be Enough
The free account is more likely to be sufficient when one person handles purchasing, Amazon orders are occasional, delivery speed rarely affects operations, and the company does not need advanced purchasing controls or spend analytics.
This is especially relevant for small companies tempted to buy a subscription because they expect to need its advanced features later.
Pay for the purchasing system the business needs now. Upgrade when a real purchasing constraint appears.

Which Prime Business Plan Fits Your Business?
User limits matter, but the plan decision should also reflect purchasing complexity.
Business situation | Plan to investigate first | Why |
Sole proprietor already paying for personal Prime | Duo | No added membership fee for eligible users |
Team of up to 5 needing buying controls or visibility | Essentials | Introduces team-focused spend and purchasing tools |
Growing business with up to 20 users | Small | More users, deeper rewards opportunities and potential extended credit terms |
Organization needing up to 200 users | Medium | Greater capacity and longer approval functionality |
Complex procurement operation with many users | Enterprise | Unlimited-user structure and additional purchasing controls |
“Investigate first” is intentional.
The right plan is not necessarily the most feature-rich plan a company can afford. It is the lowest-cost tier that solves the company's current purchasing problems without creating an immediate user or capability constraint.
How to Sign Up for Prime Business
The process starts with Amazon Business.
Create or sign in to an Amazon Business account, complete any business verification Amazon requests, and review the Prime Business plans available to the account.
A sole proprietor with an eligible personal Prime membership can check Duo eligibility. Other organizations can compare the paid tiers against the number of buyers and purchasing controls they actually need.
After membership is active, administrators should configure applicable user roles, buying policies and account settings. Purchasing controls create little operational value if the organization pays for them but never configures or uses them.
Amazon Business Prime FAQs
What's the Difference Between Amazon Prime and Amazon Business?
Amazon Prime is a consumer membership. Amazon Business is a business purchasing account. A company can have an Amazon Business account without paying for Prime Business; Prime Business is the optional membership layer added to that account.
What Is the Fee for Amazon Business Prime?
Current US pricing is free for eligible Duo customers, $179 per year for Essentials, $499 for Small, $1,299 for Medium, and $10,099 for Enterprise. Prices and benefits can change.
Is Amazon Business Better Than a Personal Account?
Amazon Business is better suited to company purchasing because it is designed around business buyers, purchasing management and organizational accounts. Personal Amazon accounts remain appropriate for ordinary household purchasing. The better choice depends on whether the purchase is personal or for an organization.
Is Amazon Business Free to Use?
Yes. A basic Amazon Business account does not require a paid Prime Business membership. Prime Business is an optional additional membership, with Duo currently free for eligible personal Prime members and the other tiers carrying annual fees.
The Practical Difference
Prime Business is best understood as an optional upgrade to a business purchasing system, not simply “Amazon Prime for companies.”
For a sole proprietor, the main value may be keeping work purchases separate while receiving Prime-style business delivery through Duo. For a growing team, purchasing controls and spend visibility can become more useful. For larger organizations, approvals, analytics and payment workflows may matter more than shipping.
The decision therefore begins before choosing a Prime Business plan:
Evaluate the free Amazon Business account first. Identify what purchasing problem remains. Prime Business makes sense when its additional benefits solve that problem often enough to justify the membership cost.
