The documented mechanism
Stripe's standard Payments pricing is per transaction (a percentage plus a fixed fee), described as 'simple, pay-as-you-go pricing' with no set-up fees. Custom packages are available for businesses with large payment volume or unique business models. They can include IC+ pricing, volume discounts and multi-product discounts. For Stripe Billing, customers choose between two plans. Pay as you go charges a percentage of Billing volume with no recurring fees, and Stripe calls it best for low or unpredictable volume. Pay monthly is an annual subscription, paid monthly, priced by volume tier. In effect, the customer chooses between usage-based and committed pricing.

The sources reviewed report no outcome for this practice.

Confounders and limits
The page shows prices, not results. It says nothing about how customers split between plans or why Stripe chose this structure. Prices vary by country. The page we read was the Denmark-localized version, so amounts and card categories differ elsewhere.
04 Over time
Known revisions, reversals or failures
No documented revision found in the sources reviewed. The page is a current price list and changes over time.
05 Editorial interpretation — not a company claim
WeCaseStudy interpretation
WeCaseStudy interpretation: Stripe publishes usage pricing as the default, a committed subscription as an alternative once volume is predictable, and custom deals at scale. That is a ready-made template for a hybrid path, and it moves the choice to the customer according to how predictable their volume is.
06 What transfers
Adaptation boundaries
A small company should not copy Stripe's percentages. They reflect payments economics, network costs and scale. Nor should it assume customers can forecast usage well enough to choose a plan. Stripe's structure relies on metering and billing infrastructure that Stripe itself sells. Prices on the page are volatile and region-specific; recheck before citing.
Claims and their sources
Each material claim has its own type, source, location and review state. A documented policy is not proof that everyone follows it; a vendor describing its own product is vendor-reported.
